救援消防队长马丁说，从出事家庭所使用的衣物柔软剂标签上可以看到，“该产品可能会降低衣物阻燃性”的说明。
美国卫生部家用产品数据库的数据显示，绒面布料的易燃性高于其他材质的纺织品。而某些柔软剂“会令衣物柔软蓬松，却也增加了这些衣物的易燃性”，因此他们建议“不要在这类(绒面)衣物上使用该产品。”
