NFPA 80A Recommended Practice for Protection of Buildings from Exterior Fire Exposures

1.1 Scope. This recommended practice addresses separation distances between buildings to limit exterior fire spread based on exterior openings and other construction features.
Follow guidelines in the 2012 NFPA 80A to help prevent fire from spreading between neighboring buildings.
Updated to reflect the recently revised terminology in testing standards and the new technology in window manufacturing, the 2012 NFPA 80A Recommended Practice for Protection of Buildings from Exterior Fire Exposures provides the latest recommendations concerning separation distances between buildings to limit exterior fire spread based on exterior openings and other construction features.
Among the changes to the 2012 NFPA 80A that improve the document are
· Changed the term "radiation" to "radiant heat"
· Added "fire window assembly" to the list of acceptable opening protection methods
· Changed the term "flame spread rating" to "flame spread index"
· Added one UL standard and one ASTM standard to replace NFPA 255, which was withdrawn in 2009
· Updated the edition of one UL Standard
