This standard specifies requirements for foam and the chemicals used to produce foam that is used to control, suppress, or prevent fires in Class A fuels.

In the 2010 edition, an entirely new section has been added regarding exposure protection effectiveness of Class A foams. The standard now includes a test methodology involving lateral ignition flame-spread on substrate treated with foam solutions.
